You may remember as a kid yourself, putting together a airfix model or any kid of model or even a matchstick building (well in the UK we did that, not sure if it was an international thing) J
Anyway, building your own model be it something stationary or a Petrol RC Car is so so much fun, looking at what kind of unbuilt RC Cars are available in your country on sites like cars found at http://www.simplyrc.co.uk/ is defiantly worth it.
The technology thesedays allows us to look into buying a unbuilt rc car be it an electric version or full spec nitro rc car. The main difference being the electric run on a battery where as the nitro cars around run on nitro fuel you purchase from your local model shop.
Here are a few electric RC Cars you can find in the United Kingdom from retailers here. I previously have built the Cyclone RC Car but that was nitro so will leave for my unbuilt nitro cars article coming soon for more information.
Raptor Truggy
Similar to buggies, you have what are called Truggies with this being an unbuilt version and very popular indeed. Absolutely perfect for people looking to build, maybe something to put together with the kids to get away from Lego for a little while J Once built, they are tremendous fun to race around the garden or road outside as long as it’s a quiet road.
Whats so good about unbuilt electric rc cars and truggies is that when you enter this hobby, electric are the best ones to go with but you are learning about how they are put together rand work rather than just buying a prebuilt model and not really learning much.
They are becoming so popular, you can find them in some schools for some of their classes. To put together, you get all you need to get going is batteries for the transmitter. As you learn about electric models you will hear about the powerful 4WD system which is what you will find in this electric truggy.

GS Racing CLXE 1/8th Electric RC Buggy KIT
Another option is this GS Racing Buggy which has previously been an award winner, and extremely fast! The GS company are well known in the RC model industry as very good designs, high performance and a high respect company using materials that give a very good build quality.
Ideally this is a model that’s best for those who have had a RC Car before, but even so there is nothing stopping you from jumping in and getting the best from a self build model and learning experience.
Scale is something you will get used to, with this model being a 1/8th scale RC Buggy that’s extremely light so makes it even quicker than other buggies the same size.
These are just two models available in the UK, but will talk more in future articles about whats available not just in the UK but the US to where this hobby is huge.
